Fair Trade Policy and Making Our Products Responsibly

When East End Press made the decision to partner with printers, crafts people and manufacturers overseas our first concern was creating a working relationship with people that was ethical and fair, where everyone in the supply chain was respected and paid a fair wage. The connotations of importing from Asian countries are generally not good, due to the risk of exploiting people not protected by European minimum wages and safe labour laws. East End Press is committed to respecting everyone involved in the production of it’s products and does not work with companies or manufacturers unless it is proven that workers rights are respected (following national labour laws); no children are ever involved in the production process and workers are paid at least the national minimum wage for their role. East End Press founder Ellie Hodesdon has personally visited every printing plant , manufacturer and factory that East End Press uses to produce their products. You can read more about the trip here.

When visiting printing plants and factories Ellie was given free reign to meet workers, see all aspects and stages of the production process and experience first hand the working conditions of employees. Decisions about who to work with on the production of East End Press’ products were hugely influenced by the standards of working conditions and treatment of employees and Ellie is confident that she has found responsible, fair companies to work with. East End Press firmly believe in paying everyone fairly for their work and respecting everyone involved in the supply of their products.

We know that buying ethically is important to our customers as well as to us, so please buy in confidence, safe in the knowledge that traditional crafts, and talented crafts people, are being supported by your purchase and that everyone in the production of your product is working in a safe, comfortable environment and is being paid fairly for their part in the process.
